It has been a busy February at Croxley Danes with Frozen production rehearsals in full swing. If you would like to purchase tickets please read below for further details. It is always a pleasure to hear of our sporting successes. This month our Year 9 netball team were successful in the latest Year 9 schools’ netball tournament. Huge congratulations to the girls for coming second, losing only one game. I am also delighted to share the news that our Year 8 girls' football team go through to the county cup final which will be on 24th April. This is a fantastic achievement that they should be very proud of. Congratulations to the entire team for their hard work and determination.
Year 11 GCSE revision sessions are well underway. Please may I remind all Year 11 parents of the importance of your child attending these sessions. This programme will support the students with both their current and previous learning and will strengthen their revision technique and exam skills.
On 21st February Miss Webb (KS4 Pastoral Leader) sent a safety message to all parents. Please be assured that we continue to reinforce this message to students in school and I would appreciate parents discussing the route their child takes to and from school. We are grateful for your continued support in these matters.
Finally, I would like to thank our parents for their support and understanding during the industrial action by members of the NEU teachers’ unions on 1st February and 1st March. We will await news on the further dates of the planned action, which are 15th and 16th March.

"The ski trip was a fantastic experience to be able to have. The skiing was absolutely amazing and so were the instructors. They were very nice and taught many people how to ski from having very little experience. The view from our rooms were spectacular and from the peak of some mountains even the alps were visible! The best day was by far the day we went snow tubing. It was the most fun for many people on the trip."
Year 10 GCSE art and Year 12 Biology students visited the Tring Natural History Museum on Tuesday 28th February.
The GCSE art students studied the work of Celia Smith and her large wire bird sculptures. Students created drawings from close observation of the large selection of taxidermy birds the museum houses. Students had the privilege of taking part in a 40-minute workshop with the museum’s creators where they were able to handle specimens and produce work from an even closer point of view.
The A level Biology students studied the collection to investigate ideas around adaptations and survival, linking to the topics of biochemistry and physiology they are currently learning in lessons. They also enjoyed a workshop on Biodiversity and Conservation where they discovered the importance of biodiversity and how this is being threatened in today’s society - through the study of data, fact files and specimens across five different case studies.
This month, a team of four students from the Environment Group visited Malvern Way Primary School to deliver an assembly on the theme of Food Waste. They shared with the children why food waste was an issue and what they can do about it. The assembly included a quiz and lots of questions and answers. They did a fantastic job of researching the issues and presenting them in a way that was appropriate to the age of the audience. We are looking forward to visiting Little Green Primary School later this month where we will be adapting the assembly for a slightly older audience.
